On Saturday, hundreds of Summit County citizens will convene to give back to the community they love.

Make a Difference Day, a national day of contribution, is hosted locally by the Summit Prevention Alliance every October. Last year, about 500 people showed up.

Volunteer services range from building and maintaining trails, painting, cleaning classrooms and making kits for preschoolers at the library. A broad section of the community helps out; people are matched as best as possible with activities.

About 30 different organizations – nonprofits, schools and government entities – have signed up as project sites.

Volunteers meet at 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Summit Stage Bus Barn (near County Commons in Frisco) for registration, check-in, breakfast and a bag lunch giveaway. They leave for work at 9 a.m. and return for lunch around noon, which is donated by community members.

So far, about 150 people have pre-registered, but 500 are expected.

Carli Seeba, SPA’s community prevention coordinator, said people enjoy getting out and giving back alongside community members, family and friends.

“It’s just a great day of community bonding,” she said.
