Parade float entries are now being accepted for the 50th anniversary Ullr Fest parade to take place Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Entry is free and winners receive cash – $1,000 for first, $300 for second and $200 for third – Bud Light prizes and more. Community members are encouraged to show their creativity, as a new Travel Channel show, “Edge of America” will shoot the parade and other Ullr Fest activities. Float submissions are due by today. Email with questions or to submit.Each winter, snow-worshipers don Viking horns and line the streets of Breckenridge to pay homage to Ullr, the Norse god of snow. The 50th annual celebration, Jan. 6-12, gives thanks for snow with a notorious Main Street parade, wacky Ullympic competitions, a new family night, town bonfire and more.

The Summit County Caregiver and Memory Loss Support Group will meet today at 1 at the Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco and at 6:30 p.m. at Father Dyer Church in Breck. The group welcomes caregivers in need of conversation and information about local resources. Members share their needs and work together to offer resource information and education about caregiving. The Carriage House hosts an Ullr comedy night on Friday at Beaver Run Resort to celebrate its 40th birthday. The evening features the comedic stylings of Marc Ryan and Troy Walker, plus birthday cake and door prizes. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door and can be purchased at the Carriage House or the Breckenridge Welcome Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8.

The first Summit Cup race is Saturday, and it is the first of a three-race series sponsored by The Summit Foundation, Breckenridge Ski Resort and Team Summit Colorado. This race is open to any young racer 16 and under who wants to come and tear it up through the GS course on Gold King Run on Peak 9. Lift tickets are complimentary for racers courtesy of Breckenridge Ski Resort. There is no entry fee, so come on out to Breck on Saturday and have some fun with Team Summit Colorado and the foundation. If you are interested in racing, contact Jerry Karl at or (970) 390-6680. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Breckenridge stages of the USA Pro Challenge will host a general information meeting on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at town hall, located at 150 Ski Hill Road. Community members interested in a longer-term volunteer commitment with the LOC are encouraged to attend. The race rolls through Colorado Aug. 19-25, with Breck hosting the Stage 2 finish and Stage 3 start, Aug. 20-21. Visit for additional info.

The 100,000 Homes Campaign is a grassroots effort aimed at identifying housing and providing services to 100,000 of the nation’s most vulnerable homeless and at-risk individuals by July 2014. As part of this nationwide campaign, Summit County under the auspices of the Transitional Housing Task Force is planning a two-month-long effort starting in January and again in the summer of 2013.The campaign is currently recruiting volunteers to assist with the completion of the surveys which will be available in January 2013. Come find out at our free homebuyer education class on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Buffalo Mountain Room at the County Commons in Frisco. You will learn the basics A-Z what it takes to purchase a home.! The class is sponsored by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, put on by the Summit Combined Housing Authority with help from local volunteers who will walk you through the lending process, real estate transaction, title company portion and home inspection.
