The Greenlands Reserve Land Trust seeks volunteers for the second annual fish shocking event at Straight Creek Trail Sunday. Volunteers should meet at the Straight Creek trailhead in Dillon at the end of County Road 51 at 9 a.m. and should dress for a day outdoors. The project will end by 3 p.m. Efforts will shock and count fish in the Straight Creek Watershed Aug. 5.Volunteers will need to bring lunch, water, work gloves, sturdy boots, layered clothing, sunglasses, sun hats, insect repellent, and enthusiasm.Interested parties should RSVP for the Greenlands Reserve Land Trust Adopt-A-Site project as soon as possible at: http://bit.ly/MTCgu4

The Breckenridge Heritage Alliance will celebrate the inaugural Theobald Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the preservation of Breckenridge’s history. Join us for a reception Friday, August 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. on the Barney Ford House Museum lawn honoring this year’s recipients. Awards will be presented at 5 p.m. Complimentary appetizers and refreshments will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.

Visit the Edwin Carter Discovery Center in Breckenridge Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. for the chance to meet local authors and historians, Sandra Mather, PhD. and Bill Fountain. They will be celebrating their latest collaboration, “Chasing the Dream: The Search for Gold in French Gulch.” This new publication details the story of mining in French Gulch where prospectors discovered gold in 1859. There will be a short presentation about the book at 4:30 p.m. Complimentary refreshments and appetizers will be provided.

The High Country Conservation Center is the beneficiary for the 16th annual Bluegrass & Beer Festival. HC3 provides volunteers for the event in exchange for a large donation to our organization. Help support HC3 by volunteering for a shift at Bluegrass & Beer Aug. 4 or 5. Shifts vary between two and three hours and run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt and ONE free beer from the Beer Garten! The annual Summer Bake and Craft Sale to benefit the outreach of Summit in Honduras is this weekend!! The sale will have wonderful homemade baked goods and crafts and feature jewelry by Boulder artist Maggie Connelly.The event is set for 11 a.m-4 p.m. Saturdayand 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday and will be held at St. John’s Church the corner of French and LIncoln in Breckenridge.
