Summit County man convicted of possession of cocaine

A local man was convicted by a jury for possession of more than 4 grams of cocaine, following a police bust of his Wildernest house in December.

Gerardo Alba Sanchez had 20.5 grams of cocaine and 2 grams of marijuana when Silverthorne and Summit County law enforcement officers arrived at his home on a domestic dispute call, according to a statement from the district attorney.

Alba-Sanchez faces up to six years in prison and $500,000 in fines for the class 4 felony. A sentencing hearing has been set for Nov. 14.

Alba-Sanchez was arrested in December, after police found marijuana, cocaine and a pipe in his jacket pocket while responding to a domestic violence call. Summit County Sheriff’s Office dog Tommy later discovered a bong in his house as well.

Alba-Sanchez’s two young children, age 2 and 4 months, were present in the house with the drugs. Social services was informed, according to a case report from the Summit County Sheriff’s office.

Alba-Sanchez told authorities he bought the cocaine from a man in Denver who sold tacos. To help his case, he offered to give up information on the dealer and even set up a meeting with the man for law enforcement, according to the report.

Alba-Sanchez was convicted following a two-day trial.
