Summit County: Single vehicle rollover sends 7 to hospital

Daily News staff report

A sport utility vehicle carrying nine people rolled over on Interstate 70 at 10:52 on Sunday morning.

The vehicle crashed at milemarker 208, about three miles outside of Silverthorne, sending seven individuals to the hospital, two of which were ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle was heading west.

Steve Lipsher, spokesman for Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue, said it was unknown whether the other two passengers formally declined medical treatment or whether they didn’t need it.

Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue sent two engine crews to the scene and five ambulances – four from Summit County and one from Clear Creek County – responded.

“We had to treat it like – well, it was – a mass-casualty incident,” Lipsher said. “We call in the cavalry when that happens.”

Lipsher nor the Colorado State Patrol spokeswoman could say whether the individuals were in life-threatening or stable condition when they left for the hospital.
