Women staying at the safehouse provided by the Advocates for Victims of Assault (AVA) will now have access to a little bit of luxury in addition to the more vital services provided by the organization.

The Keystone Lodge and Spa recently donated a truckload of shampoo, lotions, bath soaps and other cosmetic products, valued at approximately $1,600, to the Advocates, which will be used to stock the safehouse.

“For the Advocates, you get so many women who are displaced from their home, have left everything behind them, have nowhere to turn and may not have expendable money,” said Leya Nicolait, manager of the spa at the Keystone Lodge. “We thought it would be great to donate. We just thought that would have the greatest impact in our community.”

The Advocates for Victims of Assault provides services, information and support to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence or trauma throughout Summit County. The Advocates offer a 24-hour hotline for victims, as well as therapy, community outreach and legal advocacy programs. Last year alone the organization fielded over 100 crisis calls and more than 1,000 requests for information and referrals.

The organization operates the only transitional safehouse for women and children in the county, where the Keystone Lodge and Spa’s donated products will be used.

“(It’s) going to stock our shelves for a long time and will be really helpful to all of our clients,” legal advocate Katie Duggin said of the donation.

The Keystone Lodge and Spa donated the products as part of a rebranding effort.

The Advocates organization relies almost entirely on grants and donations to cover operating costs.
