Summit County spa founder releases holistic health series

Special to the Daily

Colleen LeeAnn Meheen fulfilled a dream in November when she opened the Elan-Life Spa & Vitality Center in Silverthorne – a health center offering everything from traditional skin treatments and massage therapy to holistic services, allergy elimination and nutritional and diet therapy. Now, she offers the first in a series of Kindle volumes to guide those seeking to create a better life inside and out.”These two efforts work hand in hand,” Meheen said. “Elan-Life Spa is the tangible, applicable resource to live out the concepts within the book.” Each volume of “Life from the Inside Out – Sparks That Ignite a Radiant Life” explores “an aspect of wholeness – starting with the mind, working into realms that heal and build the body and finishing with the edifying and nurturing of the spirit,” Meheen said. She released the first, a short piece titled “Balance & Harmony – A Powerful and Positioned Mind,” for digital download in February ($3.99 on Amazon). The first volume explores five factors of mental wellness – self-appreciation, resilience, affiliation, negotiation and mental and physical exercise – and how they can be incorporated into a person’s life, with an emphasis on women. There are also suggestions for mental strategies to implement while healing from trauma. “It is true that what we focus on and meditate on is what manifests in our lives,” Meheen said, so the first volume is about “the mind’s power to create our reality.””Any person can look at their current situation and get a clear indication on where their thoughts, ideas and imaginations have been focused,” Meheen said. “This volume goes into more detail about patterns of thought, how to use various concepts in our thinking to be successful with people, our careers and our life as a whole.”The mind is just one component of healthy living, however, so in total, Meheen plans to release five or six volumes over the course of the year. The second, released this month, centers on the body. “My goal was to streamline the many variables of physical health and compose a very comprehensive resource that anyone can use, apply immediately and sustain over the long haul to discover an amazing, radiant life,” she said about the second volume, which is titled “The Completely Healthy Body.” Among the many influences on the series’ development were the author’s experiences living abroad in western Africa and London. “Living abroad for any length of time really expands the mind and the heart if we allow it to,” she said. “These times, for me, really helped mold me into a ‘big picture’ thinker and to start really living life outside the box. … I just believe knowledge is power. If you want to enhance yourself, thus enhance your life and the life of those that share your life.”
