Summit County: Spay/neuter vouchers available

Special to the Daily

Summit County Animal Control and Shelter is pleased to announce a partnership with the League for People and Animals of the Summit to encourage pet owners to spay or neuter their pets. LAPS currently provides $40 spay/neuter vouchers, as well as financial assistance for qualifying pet owners, to assist in the neutering cost at our local veterinarians.

The shelter recently received money from two different sources enabling it to provide a limited number of $60 vouchers. These vouchers can be used in conjunction with the $40 LAPS voucher for a total of $100 toward a spay or neuter. Additionally, shelter vouchers can help cover some of the remaining costs that are not covered by LAPS spay/neuter financial assistance.

The shelter received two generous cash donations from Michael McDonald, an employee of the Climax Mine. Through the employee/employer matching charitable contribution program of the Freeport McMoran Foundation, the shelter received $4,500. The shelter has also been awarded a monetary grant of $4,600 from the Maddie’s Fund. The shelter is in a coalition of animal welfare agencies that meet the criteria of not euthanizing healthy or treatable dogs and cats. The shelter has achieved this status because of our community’s strong belief in controlling our pet population through spaying and neutering. We will continue to support this belief by offering vouchers to pet owners who live or work in Summit.

Spay/neuter vouchers and applications for LAPS financial assistance for pet sterilization surgery can be obtained at the shelter. Vouchers are accepted at the following veterinarians: Alpine Veterinary Practice, Breckenridge Animal Clinic, Buffalo Mountain Animal Hospital, Farmer’s Korner Veterinary Hospital, Frisco Animal Hospital, and The Visiting Veterinarian (Dr. Roy Million).
