Local residents can now apply for grant funding for wildfire protection efforts, thanks to a new grant program enacted by the Summit Board of County Commissioners.

The Community Wildfire Protection Plan Implementation Grant Program involves a competitive process focusing on four areas of protection: life safety, critical infrastructure, design and pre-engineering and education, according to a statement from the Summit County Wildfire Council and CSU Extension Summit County.

The recipient is required to contribute at least 10 percent of the cost of the project to secure the grant.

The application period will run through June 29. Applications are available online at the local CSU Extension page at http://bit.ly/KdM6Vh. CSU Extension agent Dan Schroder can be reached at (970) 668-4140 for additional information.

Summit Daily is embarking on a multiyear project to digitize its archives going back to 1989 and make them available to the public in partnership with the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection. The full project is expected to cost about $165,000. All donations made in 2023 will go directly toward this project.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
