One truly special place to get married is Sapphire Point atop Swan Mountain Road (970-468-5400). With expansive views of Lake Dillon below, the Tenmile Range to the west and the Gore and Williams ranges to the north, the site has the distinct advantage of being readily accessible from the roadway the loop around the point is a quarter-mile, round-trip but the feeling is of seclusion in the center of the Colorado Rockies.

A discreet trail leads friends and family from the parking lot atop the pass around the western flank of the rocky knoll. Gentle alpine breezes blow over the cerulean lake below a lake that in the summer is dotted with the colored sails of boats. Blue spruce and lodgepole pine provide a beautiful backdrop for photos, as do the numerous overlooks from which almost all of Summit County can be seen.

Another popular locale is at the Breckenridge Ski Resort’s Ten Mile Station (800-789-7669), which offers views of the Blue River Valley, Baldy Mountain and Mount Guyot and features mining-era architecture in a “mountain formal” venue.

This mid-mountain venue provides a gorgeous setting for the perfect wedding or reception for parties up to 170 people. Its high vaulted ceilings, large windows overlooking the Upper Blue Valley and oversized deck make it the ideal inside/outside mountain venue. Plus, room rental fees include china, silverware, crystal, linens and the dance floor, and in-house chefs are skilled in creating a variety of house and traditional favorites.

Outside, winding trails lead to scenic overlooks of the Ten Mile Range to the south, Mounts Baldy and Guyot across the valley and the snow-encrusted peaks of the Ten Mile Range above. And as grand as the views are, some of the best scenery is found at your feet, in the tiny wildflowers that flourish in the high alpine environment.
