Summit Cove woman dies at 69

Jane S. Cantrell of Summit Cove died April 21 after a long illness. She was 69.

Cantrell was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Chicago to parents Dr. Gilbert and Ruth Smith. She was raised in Timpson, Texas, where she was valedictorian of her 1949 high school graduating class. Cantrell attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in business administration. She also was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

She married Bill W. Cantrell on Aug. 30, 1952, and lived in Dallas after he finished college. Cantrell was an active volunteer with the Republican party while in Dallas. The couple retired in 1986 and moved to Colorado to ski and enjoy the outdoors.

Cantrell was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Cathy. She is survived by her husband; daughters Karen Palmer of Grapevine, Texas and Susan Blair of Canton, Texas; sons Craig of Austin and Keith of Frisco, Texas; six grandchildren; and sister Betsy Smith of Washington.

Services will be held Friday in Dallas.
