Now through Sunday, June 21, Summit Daily News readers can enter to win the Ultimate Explore Summit Weekend Giveaway, a four-person Summit County summer sampler that includes lodging and gift certificates for dining, outdoor activities and free entertainment.
“Every summer, the Summit Daily News gives away some kind of prize around the summer kickoff event — Colorado BBQ Challenge — held in Frisco,” said Austyn Williams, audience brand manager for the paper. “This year, we thought, ‘Why not share everything we love about Summit County in a perfect weekend giveaway?’”
The prize includes a two-night lodging voucher for the Hotel Frisco, four Breckenridge Resort Summer Fun Park Passes, a half-day of whitewater adventure courtesy of Kodi Rafting, a two-hour pontoon boat rental from the town of Frisco and a handful of gift cards to restaurants around the county.
“We’re going to be giving the winner all these gift certificates, and they can choose to do them sporadically throughout the summer or in the itinerary the way we have it laid out; but it’s really up to the winner and how they want to redeem it,” Williams said.
The Summit Daily has mapped out a sample itinerary that shows how to maximize the prize package’s adventures in the minimum amount of time.
“During the summer, there is so much to do in Summit County,” Williams said. “We tried to capture a little bit of everything — something on the lake, something on the river, something on the mountain — showcasing the mountain towns and activities we love.”
The “ultimate weekend” could start with the winner checking in to the Hotel Frisco on a Friday afternoon, with a dinner stop at Jersey Boys Pizza and Deli in Dillon, followed by a free concert at the Dillon Amphitheater on the shores of the reservoir.
Your weekend could continue Saturday, with a half-day rafting trip down the Blue River, followed by an afternoon ride on the Breck Connect Gondola to the base of Peak 8 in Breckenridge to explore mountain biking trails and the Summer Fun Park with an alpine slide, zip line, kids’ gemstone panning and more.
Finish up your Friday with dinner in downtown Breckenridge at the Blue Stag Saloon, and wake refreshed for a Sunday pontoon float sandwiched between snacks or lunch at the Island Grill at the Frisco Bay Marina and a refreshing Rum Runner at the Pug Ryan’s Tiki Bar at the Dillon Marina.
Transportation is not included in the package, Williams said, but many places are in walking distance; the free Summit Stage county bus also picks up within a block or two of each of the suggested destinations.
Enter in person at the Colorado BBQ Challenge in Frisco or by visiting http://www.exploresummit.com and answering a short survey about the content you are most interested in reading in the Summit Daily News.
“The prize pack is the ultimate 60 hours in Summit County,” Williams said. “Why wouldn’t you want to enter? It literally has something for everyone, no matter if you live here or are just visiting.”
