FRISCO – Today, we pat ourselves on the back.The Summit Daily News won 14 awards from the 2004 Colorado Press Association in the category for dailies under 10,000 circulation.The winners are:- Third place, sports event story: Devon O’Neil for “Breck’s Seeling wins Dillon Open.”- Third place, deadline news reporting: Julie Sutor, Ryan Slabaugh, Jim Pokrandt and Reid Williams for “Frisco fire injures seven”;- First place, sustained coverage: Kim Marquis for her coverage of the sheriff’s primary election between Mike Phibbs and John Minor;- Second place, serious column writing: Jeffrey Bergeron;- Third place, sports column writing: Devon O’Neil for “Ringside with Phibbs and Minor.”- Third place, creativity: Reid Williams for “Summit Up”;- First place, sports photograph: Reid Williams for “Snowboard sequence”;- Second place, feature page design: Amy Sowards and Reid Williams;- Third place, editorial layout and design: Leslie Brefeld, Jason Starr, Ryan Slabaugh and Duffy Hayes;- First place, black and white ad: Amy Sowards;- Second place, use of color in an ad: Dana Demeter;- First place, advertising special section: Summit Daily News staff;- Third place, advertising layout and design: Summit Daily News staff.The Summit Daily News also won a handful of awards from the Associated Press.They are:- Honorable mention, feature photo: Reid Williams;- Second place, photo essay: Brad Odekirk;- Honorable mention, series: Ryan Slabaugh, Richard Chittick, Dan Kelley for “Are You Aware, Avalanche series”;- Honorable mention, spot news photo: Brad Odekirk;- Second place, spot news photo: Reid Williams;- Honorable mention, sports writing: Jim Morgan.
