Summit Fire & EMS firefighters extinguished a small brush fire between Straight Creek and the Orofino condos in Dillon Valley Saturday, May 25.

In a Facebook post, the agency said, “Our Wildland 8 crew got a quick knock-down on the flames and were backed by our Wildland 2 crew and Wildland Division, performing some saw work.”

The post said they got support from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Dillon Police Department and a safety officer from Breckenridge-based Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District. Also, some bystanders were throwing buckets of water on the fire, the post stated. The burning occurred primarily in willows, and the fire was contained to about a 12-by-30 foot space. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is suspected to be from human actions.

“This was the second wildfire in as many days and the third in two weeks for us. We cannot stress enough the responsibility that we all have up here in the high country to be careful with all sources of flames, all year,” Summit Fire & EMS said in the post. “We do not want to experience a catastrophe with lost homes and potentially even lost lives.”
