Summit girls to play in recitals

BRECKENRIDGE – Erica Fox, 12, Rebecca Kennedy, 11, Allison Rowley, 12, and Jillian Rowley,15, have been chosen to perform piano solos in honors recitals at the 2003 Colorado Suzuki Institute, which is being held in Snowmass Village June 9-14.

The girls were selected to play after submitting video-taped performances of their pieces to a committee of nationwide Suzuki instructors.

Out of hundreds who apply from all over the world, only 12-16 students are chosen to perform in honors recitals during each session of the Institute.

All four girls take piano lessons from Charlotte Griffin, whose studio is located in Breckenridge. Griffin said, “It is quite impressive that four girls from Summit County were selected to play in one year.”

The free concerts will take place Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 4:45 pm in the Snowmass Conference Center ballroom.

Fox will play the Allegro from Frederic Kuhlau’s Sonatina, Op. 55, No. 1 on Thursday. Kennedy will play the Allegro from Muzio Clementi’s Sonatina Opus 36, No. 1 on Friday. Allison Rowley will play the Andante from Muzio Clementi’s Sonatina Opus 36, No. 1 on Tuesday and Jillian Rowley will play the Invention No. 1 in C Major by Johann Sebastian Bach on Friday.

The Colorado Suzuki Institute takes place annually in Snowmass Village and provides an opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to study the philosophy and teachings of Dr. Suzuki and the principles of Talent Education.
