ALAMOSA – Summit High School’s Knowledge Bowl team raked in numerous honors in state competition, placing in the top three in every category the team entered.

The quiz team competed in the Colorado State Knowledge Bowl in Alamosa Tuesday and Wednesday. Summit took home first place over the other 4A schools in two days of regular competition and finished third for the same rounds. The competition also included a written contest in which Summit took first place for the highest single score and a first place for highest combined score in two written rounds.

A three-way tie in championship rounds led to what coach David McBride described as a heartbreaking, sudden-death playoff. Summit placed third in that round.

Summit also was one of three schools to compete in the final Governor’s Cup held in front of all other teams. The team placed third in that round.

The Knowledge Bowl team includes Mike Samuels, Todd Martinez, John Montepare, Matt Keeling, Mike Koop and Elliot Hedman.

McBride called the performance “an excellent result and the culmination of much hard work on the part of the students involved to prepare for the competition. I am very proud of this team.”
