Summit High School concerts on Thursday and Dec. 8

The Summit High School Choral Concert is Thursday at 7 p.m. The event will feature the SHS Choral groups: Concert Choir, Summit Singers, and a small group of juniors and seniors (yet to be named) who specialize in contemporary music, pop and vocal jazz. There will be individual and small group selections as well, featuring songs from “Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Miserables” as well as some holiday selections. There will also be a sing-a-long with seasonal favorites.

The Instrumental Music Concert will be held Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. and will feature the following ensembles: Concert Band (ninth-graders), which will feature one piece with eighth-graders from SMS for recruitment purposes, the Symphonic Band, Pearl Harbor Orchestra, featuring the full orchestra version of Tchaikovsky’s “Waltz of the Flowers” from The Nutcracker Ballet and Jazz Ensemble, featuring music of the Swing Era. All of these ensembles will be directed by Linda Shea and the concerts are at Summit High School.

Also, there will be a silent auction held during intermission to help raise money for the band and orchestra’s upcoming trip to Budapest, Prague and Vienna in April. It’s not too late to donate items for this event, as well. Contact the band department at (970) 368-1117 for more info.
