Summit High School students to debate global security and energy choices

The Summit High School Speech and Debate Team and the Keystone Center will host a forum on American foreign policy at 7 p.m. Friday. Members of the High School Debate Team will address the topics of global security and energy choices. Following the debate, students will take questions from the audience. The Summit Debate Team is a state and nationally recognized group of high school students.The event will be held at the Keystone Center, 1628 Sts. John Rd., Keystone. It is part of “The People Speak: America’s Role in the World,” a nationwide discussion series taking place in hundreds of locations around the country. “The People Speak” is backed by a nonpartisan coalition of national sponsors including the United Nations Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute and the Brookings Institution.The debate is being held in conjunction with the Keystone Center’s teacher training on global climate change, in which middle level teachers from across the country will be working with the Keystone Center’s professional education and leadership staff to learn a nonbiased process to discover the basics of climate change, employ scientific and social strategies to investigate influences on climate, and share findings on a personal, local and national level.
