The Summit Historical Society will be hosting a variety of events, tours, hikes and talks this summer, according to a news release from the nonprofit.
Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the summer, the historical society will host guided boat tours on the Dillon Reservoir, the release states. The tours are offered in cooperation with the Dillon Marina and explore the history hidden beneath the waters of the reservoir.
Starting June 6, the historical society will be at the Dillon Farmers Market every Friday, offering a mobile exhibit with pop-up banners on mining, ranching, skiing and local ghost towns.
On July 23 and Aug. 19, Summit County author Bill Fountain will lead two guided hikes while sharing insights and stories from the pages of the Historic Landscape series, which Fountain wrote with Sandra Mather. The sixth book in the series “Railroad Stations and Sites: Braddock, Dickey, The High Line Railroad Park, and More” will be released on June 15.
The annual Vintage Baseball Game will be held Aug. 10, with the Summit Sluggers playing baseball as it was played in 1864 — with no gloves, vintage uniforms, wooden bats and underhand pitching.
