Summit pioneer Helen Foote passes away

Summit County, CO ColoradoFRISCO – Summit County legend and pioneer Helen Foote died on Sunday. She was 88.Foote received a home economics degree from Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas, and was best known for teaching home economics for 22 years to Summit County boys and girls. The recent Summit High School Career and Technical Wing was dedicated in her name.Born just outside of Wellington, Texas, in 1918, Helen married Bob Foote and, shortly after, moved to Los Angeles, where Bob built airplanes and Helen worked for Bullocks department store in the downtown area.Born and raised on a farm just east of Greeley, Bob and his brother Howard went to see their grandma on the farm just after World War II and happened to pass through Frisco, where Bob saw a “for sale” sign on eight lots along Frisco’s Main Street.Bob and Helen rented out cabins to fishermen and hunters in the 1950s, and started a small grocery store too. Though Bob passed away, Helen has never sold the home and raised her four children in Frisco.Foote leaves a large family, including four children – Patricia, Robert, Ernest and Cynthia – 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., at the Rocky Mountain Bible Church in Frisco on Satruday. A casual dinner will be held after the service at the Elk’s Lodge. The family requests no flowers. Instead, they are setting up a memorial fund at Bank of the West to help students interested in studying home economics.
