Summit Recycling Project promises future recycling help for Park County

Carly Wier - executive director, Summit Recycling Project

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following letter to James Cox of the defunct Recycle the Park was provided for publication by the Summit Recycling Project.

It is not often that I am saddened by opening an envelope to find a check addressed to Summit Recycling Project. But, this was indeed the case today as I found a check in the amount of $5,457.30 from Recycle the Park.

As your letter noted, Recycle the Park has officially dissolved as a nonprofit and this check represents the remaining assets of your organization.

Today, I feel we have lost an ally and an old friend in Recycle the Park, and yet another nonprofit recycler.

From our post here in Summit County, we can’t provide comprehensive recycling services to our neighbors in Park or Lake County – yet.

But, we pledge to continue to work toward that goal and will use the money from Recycle the Park in our efforts to meet that goal.

Our board of directors and staff are working diligently toward the development of a recycling processing center at the Summit County Landfill that will enable us to drastically improve the efficiency of our operations and eventually expand our reach to neighboring communities.

We know that a recycling ethic still runs deep in much of Park County, and we look forward to the day when we can bring nonprofit recycling back across the border and into Park County.

So, it is with a heavy heart that I offer my sincerest thanks on behalf of our board of directors and staff for this contribution.

Carly Wier
