The Summit School District is currently responding to a report of alleged misconduct involving a temporary contractor and a student at Summit Cove Elementary School, according to district communications director Kerstin Anderson.

The matter was discussed in an executive session during a June 5 Summit School District Board of Education meeting.

She said the district is fully cooperating with law enforcement and “(remains) committed to both transparency and the integrity of the investigative process.” She said the district took immediate action to follow its mandatory reporting obligations as an educational institution by notifying local law enforcement upon receiving the report.

The accused individual was promptly removed from the school environment and will not return pending the outcome of the investigation, according to Anderson.

“The safety, well-being and dignity of our students are — and will always be — our highest priorities,” she stated in an email. “We take our responsibilities as mandated reporters with the utmost seriousness and are unwavering in our commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for every student.”

Anderson said the district will not be providing additional details during this time to protect the privacy of those involved and to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

District Attorney Heidi McCollum said she is aware of the report and confirmed there is an open investigation.

“At this time, until the investigation is complete it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the substance of that investigation,” McCollum stated.
