Summit Sometimes

Jason Starr

The Stasevich family of Miami Beach, Fla., spent five years considering their second home options. They looked into the Bahamas, considered Nothern Florida, checked out Vail. But one trip to Breckenridge, a week staying at the Village at Breckenridge, was all it took to convince the family of four to come to Summit County. They bought a place right after their first trip to the area. Not full-time, though. The family spends one month in the summer in town and two weeks in the winter. Although their house is walking distance from the Quicksilver chairlift, the Stasevich’s are mainly summer residents of Summit County. For their children, 11-year-old Bailey and 9-year-old Isaac, Breckenridge is summer camp. They have no car when they are in town, spending most of their time hiking and biking on area trails. Breckenridge or Florida?Breckenridge in the summer; Florida in the winter. The summer weather there is amazing. It is really hot here so we like to leave. What do you think of the winter cold?I couldn’t imagine living there. It’s too cold. But the weeks that we are there skiing it’s fine. Why did you choose Breckenridge?I love the town. We skied Vail and many other places, and I just loved that there was a town before a ski village. It’s not just a ski village. The town is very laid-back, we just love it. So, we went out there, we loved it and bought a place. We figured we’ll spend lots of summer time there. How long were you considering a place?I was considering buying a second home in several different areas for about five years before I bought it. Then I went to Breckenridge. I loved the town, I loved the ski resort, I loved the skiing. I stayed at the village. It was a great vacation, and I bought it right then and there.
