Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that feels the need for speed when it comes to sledding down a steep hill on a small plastic disk.We grabbed the canines last weekend and headed for the great big hill in Carter Park. Though our “sled” resembles a flimsy garbage can lid, we figured it would be more than capable for conquering this hill.
Or so we thought …We climbed to the top of the hill, centered our body on the garbage can lid and pushed off with our hands. The next thing we knew, we were flying down the hill. Actually, flying is far too graceful a word for what we were actually doing. We were hurtling down the hill.
Every bump we hit sent us five feet into the air and then slammed us back to the hard-packed snow. Keep in mind, there was only a quarter-inch of plastic between our bum and the hard, hard ground. We ended our journey battered and bruised with a whole posse of dogs tackling us at the bottom of the hill.Boy, that was fun, we thought, and we never want to do it again.
