Summit up
Special to the Daily

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that is again running photos from Summit County’s Cutest Dog contest, but today we actually have a reason.

See, today, January 29, marks the beginning of the new Lunar Year on the Chinese calendar, so what better way to celebrate this important occasion than to run, yes, more photos of our cute canine companions.

For the Chinese, this day actually means something, believe it or not. Fortunetellers are often consulted about what the future will be based on your birth year, and the associated animal sign. And it’s all totally true, and on the level, by the way.Dog people, according to those who believe in this sort of thing, tend to be honest and freely show their feelings. Yet they can also be stubborn or short-tempered. And if you’re a Dog, you’re most compatible with a Horse, Tiger or Rabbit. Wow, it’s just like real life.

Famous dogs: J-Lo, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Steven Spielberg and Donald Trump. And political leanings don’t seem to matter much on the Chinese calendar – both George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are Dogs. (Insert your own joke, here.)

***We out, celebrating the Year of the Monkey still because that’s the funniest Chinese astrological sign.
