Summit up

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that has decided that some things just shouldn’t be done in the nude. We’ve always considered ourselves quite free-spirited and somewhat on the hippie side, so when we discovered that the beach outside our cabaña in Mexico was “clothing optional,” we didn’t think twice. It’s vacation, we thought. Nothing wrong with people shaking off their stress by relaxing in the warm sun, free of all baggage, including swim trunks.

After five days of watching nude 40- and 50-somethings liberate themselves by playing bocce ball in the buff or straddling a sea kayak sans swimsuit, we’ve strayed slightly from our original opinion on the idea.Sunbathing naked? No biggie, although we’re not sure why you’d want those rarely exposed parts baking in the heat. A burn could cause a very uncomfortable few days.Swimming without clothes? We’re full advocates.

But, attempting to mount an unstable sea kayak by swinging your legs around either side of the boat doesn’t exactly present the prettiest picture for those sitting behind you on the beach. Not to mention, asking an innocent bystander to videotape your kayak adventure to capture all those precious vacation moments on camera to enjoy for years to come. Someone’s in for an interesting view of their backside when they pop that tape into the VCR in a couple months. We know it wasn’t just us that thought this was a rather peculiar disposition of body parts, as several giggles escaped from nearby bathers who caught the show as well.

Even all the tequila shots we took at the bar hasn’t helped to erase the images from our memory.***It’s Monday and we’re digging ourselves out from the latest snowstorm. Drop us a line at or call us at 668-3998, ext. 13600.
