Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that begs to differ with a very famous groundhog. As our esteemed readers already know, Friday was Groundhog’s Day and Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his stump for his annual day in the spotlight. Imagine that. Only one day of work a year, leaving the other 364 days for whatever it is a groundhog does all day – sleeping, nibbling on alfalfa, sleeping, burrowing, sleeping, fighting off snakes, sleeping some more. Must be nice.Pardon us, we strayed off the topic. What we really want to talk about is the fact that this Phil character didn’t see his shadow on Friday. That means we should expect an early spring as opposed to six more weeks of winter. As if. Clearly Phil has not been to Summit Up Land, or else he would’ve never even made it out of his little hole on Friday for fear that his fur would freeze instantly. We think it’s safe to assume that we have at least six more weeks of winter on hand here in the High Country. At least we hope so. We haven’t had nearly enough powder days to feel fulfilled for another winter season. As a side note, we’re told that Phil’s great-groundhog fled Philadelphia and was seen jibbin’ at Echo Mountain Park.***We have a medical Angel Alert!! Angel Alert! to report:”I was driving to Breck from Dillon on Thursday and I had a seizure in my car. Somebody found me, but I have no memory of it. I had obviously pulled over, and an ambulance had been called to come and get me. I’d like to thank the person who did that.”Major karma points to the good soul who helped this person. May you never be stranded with a flat tire and no spare.***It’s Saturday and we’re out tussling with Phil. Write us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
