Summit Up

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that’s like a thermos in the refrigerator of life.

We don’t know what that means, but somebody was asking us one of those “What’s up with people who …” kind of questions, and apparently they know someone who puts their thermos or thermal lunch box (the former of which sounds like a very naughty way of referring to someone’s underwear, by the way) in the refrigerator. We don’t know anyone like this, but if we did, we’d have to have a conversation with them about the laws of thermodynamics, the Carnot cycle and how the whole idea of these devices is to keep stuff warm.

But, hey, how much can you expect to change the minds of people who go to work with their lunch locked up by Snoopy and Woodstock or the Star Wars cast?

Like us, Gary is going a bit batty with all the traffic. He wrote this concise take on the topic:

All of the people

coming to see us

is great.

Great snow,

great business

everything is really great

when you need

to make a left turn.

I had enough time

to read an entire book

and have lunch

while waiting

to make

a left turn

We hear ya, man. That’s why we’re ‘shoeing off into the woods today. Send us letters to Santa while we’re gone, telling him what holiday gifts he should take to A) Gov. Bill Owens, $) Saddam Hussein or 3) whichever neighbor in your hood who’s annoying you. Stuff it in a stocking at, fax at (970) 668-0755 or just carol it on the voicemail at (970) 668-3998, ext. 237.

We’re out cooling our jets in the backcountry snow …
