Good morning, and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column stoked – again! – by how altruistic of a community we’ve proven once again, especially when it comes to helping out cute little critters! It seems a while back the awesome folks at Summit County Animal Control and Shelter started up an Emergency Medical Fund, to aid animals in distress who don’t have the luxury of rich mommies and daddies! Well, the community stepped up big time, as evidenced by this Angel Alert!! Angel Alert!!! from the staff at Summit County Animal Control and Shelter:”Summit County Animal Shelter would like to thank the Angels in our community who gave to the Emergency Medical Fund.”We cannot thank every person in this letter, but we do want to include L.A.P.S., MyChelle Dermaceuticals, Michael/Katha/Brandy McDonald, Ken Rosebrook for all his hard work at encouraging donations from fellow employees/bosses at Vail/Summit Orthopedics.”Thank you Summit County for all your support!!”(The last part they wrote to us in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, so they must really have meant it …)Along with their Angel Alert letter, shelter staff also enclosed a letter from Sydney and Davis Shugrue – young part-timers who made their own contribution to the fund, and wrote the following letter:”Dear Summit County Animal Control:”Hi! We are Sydney and Davis Shugrue and we are 9 years old and live in Glenview, Ill. Out family has a vacation home in Frisco – we love it!”While on vacation over spring break, we saw an article in the Summit Daily News talking about the Emergency Vet Fund and how it was used up treating two injured animals. We decided that instead of birthday presents this year, we would ask our friends to donate to the Fund.”The parties are over and we are proud to tell you that we raised over $450 for the Emergency Vet Fund! We can’t even believe it! We hope this money goes to help lots of animals.”The next time we are in Frisco, we will stop by to say Hi!”Wow, what selfless kids. Take a lesson, people …***On to some Smarty Pants!! updates …Congratulations to the following Summit High School 2003 graduates!• Stacy King, University of Colorado, graduating with a degree in Economics and a minor in Business.• Diana Smithwick, Colorado State University, graduating with a degree in Apparel and Merchandising and a minor in Business;• Stephanie Swanson, University of Illinois, graduating with Honors with a degree in Aviation/Human Factors with minors in French and International Studies.***We out, accepting birthday presents selfishly.
