Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column wishing we could dunk.
We’ve been watching the NBA playoffs this month, which have been highly entertaining. It never ceases to amaze us how the talent and natural abilities continue to increase at that level.
That said, it also makes us realize we will never be able to do that one thing we see happen over and over again: A dunk. We asked ourselves the question last night as we watched the game: Can we live with that?
Not that we have a choice, but we could. It seems like dunking is not a prerequisite to a full life, nor is it promised in the “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Perhaps we could add, “And a 50-inch vertical.” Alas, these feet are aligned with gravity, rooted in the six inches of space above the ground and, most often, the ground itself.
In case you’re ever wondering, the closest we ever came was in high school (of course), where we slipped a golf ball over the edge of the rim. We waited and waited, but never did see it show up on SportsCenter.
Oh well. Maybe that’s why we learned to spell.
It’s Sunday, and we’re out picking and rolling. E-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
