Summit Up

The colorful Summit County sky at dusk.

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the worlds only daily column really happy to be back in the mountains and calling them home.

Like most Summit County residents we are not originally form here, not even from Colorado but hail from an oddly mitten-shapped land, called Michigan.

We recently took a trip back to our home state where we went boating, hung out with friends and family and relaxed on the sandy shores of the Great Lakes.

All together it was a really great trip.

Then, after a long, boring drive back to Colorado we found ourselves getting more excited than usual as we crossed the state line from Nebraska into Colorado.

We’ve never felt this kind of excitement when venturing back to Summit County and we soon figured out what it was, we were home.

After living and working here for a few years now it hadn’t occurred to us that this mountainous place was becoming home to us.

Not just type of home where we have all our things and a bed, but the type of home that we are emotionally attached to, have friends and memories.

As we drove through Denver and started to climb our way up to 9,000 feet we wondered if others had this feeling, this moment when we realize the home we grew up in is really no longer our home.

Though it sounds sad, it really wasn’t because we thought of our new home, Summit County, and all that it has to offer.

Speaking of all that this county has to offer we wanted to share this photo of the spectacular Summit County sky, sent in from Bryan Burt. This makes us glad to be alive and living in the mountains.

We out, camping, kayaking and exploring our wonderful (new) home state.
