Summit Up

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column basking in the glow of the sun – at least as much as it’s possible to bask at your desk, looking out the window.

We don’t even care we were trapped inside yesterday. Never mind that we spent Monday in a photography darkroom. That’s how good this sunshine is making us feel. And it ain’t just us.

As we drove around Summit Up Land running errands Tuesday, the mood-elevating power of sunlight was a palpable reality. By that we mean people were so jazzed they were grabbing our keister. Just kidding. That would be called “sun poisoning” or “sunstroke” and require serious medical attention.

Seriously, though, people were smiling, they were friendly and people actually helped us at several businesses, as if they hadn’t spent the last five months dealing with demanding visitors. Amazing what a little sun can do, eh?

In celebration, here are some haikus sent to us by Andrea Godfrey:

As snow melts to spring

The slopes are calling to me

I’m still on crutches!

I saw the first bug

Looking so cold on the snow

Its wings could not fly

The songbirds come back

Looking for something to eat

Crows chase them away

Are you having the Zen moment we’re having after reading those? Ahhhhhhh. It’s Wednesday, and who knows what it has in store for us?

Tell us your predictions at summitup@summitdaily.com, fax at (970) 668-0755 or just do your best spring sigh on the voicemail at (970) 668-3998, ext. 237.

We’re out buying some suntan lotion …
