Summit Up

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that has a few photos to unload on you.

Hopefully, the layout people can get them all in this space.

Just so you know, the Summit Up Land’s Biggest Icicle Contest! is now closed to submissions. If you sent a photo and it hasn’t run, let us know. We’ll be selecting winners in about a week and handing out tons of fabulous prizes. As soon as we buy them.

To finish it off in style, we’ll share with you this note we received from George Grill after running his submission:

“My tall and frosty friend thanks you for putting his picture in your column of April 17. He was very pleased, as the picture was taken on his birthday (4 months old). Ann baked him a cake. No candles, but lots of icing.  He is standing outside because Ann told him if he couldn’t stand the heat, to stay out of her kitchen. He borrowed my hat and shades because he thought they made him look cool. He focused his icy stare on two Stalactite girls across the street. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out with either one of them. One had a cold heart. Her sister was frigid. He has been pestering me to take him cross-country skiing. I told the big drip that, with the onset of spring skiing, it was going to be all downhill for him from now on.”

It’s Sunday, and we’ve taken an expeditionary force off to the wilds of Utah. While we’re gone, send your stories, birthday wishes and maps to buried treasures to the voicemail at (970) 668-3998, ext. 228, or the usual summitup@summitdaily.com or fax at (970) 668-0755.

We’re out wrasslin’ with rattlesnakes …
