Summit Up 3-21-11: Entertained by the solar squabble in Breck

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that’s stuck between a moose and a sunrise.

Thanks for the pics, our loyal SDN readers. You keep shootin’ ’em, and we’ll keep runnin’ ’em.

While Summit County is certainly beautiful, we think it’s kinda funny people over in Breck are so against solar panels.

Yeah, we understand. We’ve heard all the arguments. “They’re ugly.” “The historic district of Breckenridge is no place for solar panels.”

The panels are just so damn ugly right? We’d hate for the panels to block the amazing views of all the buildings/townhomes and apartment buildings across the street from the Riverwalk. .

We’ve also heard the argument that it takes away from the amazing views.

We find this one particularly funny since you can’t even see the Tenmile Range while standing on Park Avenue. If you don’t like the view of the panels, you can always just look up and see the mountains.

We have to side with planning commissioner Dan Schroder who was the lone commissioner who sided with council saying the panels could actually turn Breckenridge into a unique “progressive historic town.”

And don’t even get us started on the golf club site. We’d hate for the panels to get in the way of all those amazing views of acres and acres of beetle kill.

We out. Not realizing the down side of renewable energy.
