Summit Up

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column with hay in its mouth.

You think popcorn kernel skins stuck in your gums are bad, try straw.

Now that we think about it, what exactly is the difference between hay and straw? Answer: not much when it’s stuck in your mouth and cutting up your tongue when you try to get it out.

Here’s a Scum Alert!! Scum Alert!! The president of Summit Habitat for Humanity, Lisa, says that some people have taken a big trash bin as an invitation to get rid of their refuse. The group is currently building a home in Gibson Heights in Breck, and people have been taking advantage of them.

“I guess people believe there is no cost involved with this Dumpster!” Lisa writes. “Daily, we find personal trash, including a couch, love seat, and miscellaneous household debris in the dumpster. As a nonprofit, we are trying our best to provide decent, affordable housing to a family in need. Every penny that we raise goes toward the construction of the house, including Dumpster fees. So, in effect, the money we could be using to build houses is being spent on discarding other people’s personal trash. There is a landfill in this county that accepts discarded furniture and household debris.”

Oh, if only Friday could be as nice as Thursday was. If you’ve got some crazy, spooky, scary Halloween decorations up, send us a photo of them. We’ve noticed some huge blow-up decorations in Summit Cove and at the court clerks’ offices in Breck. Send your stuff to, fax at (970) 6689-0755 or just tell us where to find it on the voicemail at (970) 668-3998, ext. 237.

We’re out caramel-coating our apples …
