Summit Up 6-20-10

Summit Daily/Mark Fox

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column trying to save wayward cyclists from death or permanent disfigurement.

Our cyclist friends complain from time to time about cops hassling ’em for rolling through stop signs. Well guess what: You’re supposed to stop.

We’ve had way too many close calls during the summit of cycling season to show any sympathy.

They pop up and we slam on our brakes. We point and shout and honk the horn, but these snotty cyclists ignore us.

And when we’re not busy being motorists, journalists or narcissists, we like to get out and pedal our own bicycle.

Following the rules keeps you out of trouble (no tickets in nine years says a lot) and from irking a complete stranger for no reason.

We stop at all stop signs, yield to pedestrians and stick to the right side of the rec path. You should, too.

Speaking of creeps who don’t follow the rules, take a gander at this beast of a canine that is strolling through a zone marked for humans. Someone should step in and fetch this pooch a one-way ticket to the pound.

Imagine the scene if this animal were unleashed on an unsuspecting barbecue team putting the finishing touches on its entries for the 17th Annual Colorado BBQ Challenge.

The dog might just end up on the wrong side of a meat smoker.

Oh well, it’s been a fun past three days as we slave away in the corporate suites with pit-fired fare wafting good smells through our cracked windows.

It’s Sunday; I love you dad.
