Summit Up 7-14-09
Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that feels like a lazy house cat lying in the sun after such a fun weekend. Now it’s Monday as we write (Tuesday as you read) and we want to ask our readers to write the column today so we can, um, relax.Fortunately, we have a bunch of great stuff here, starting with an excellent “Go Summit County!” kinda note from Mandy Turner, who writes thusly:I am a born-and-raised Summit County local, and I just wanted to throw out a few thanks to the places and people that make living here so fantastic. First to the local small businesses in Frisco, you guys make working on Main Street a blast! The fun chicks at Pika Bagel who gave me a free breakfast for sunburning the word “pika” onto my belly, you gals are our favorite bakery! Coffee Roasters has the strongest coffee and they are always happy to see us, and we love seeing them too. Dillon might be the “sleepy town,” but Mike at Hole in The Wall Video never lets us down on having the best movie selection and a fun story to tell.Gary at Affordable Music has known me since I was a tiny tot and I can thank him for most all of the CDs we have ever bought. The Dillon Dam Brewery is the home to my favorite mac-n-cheese with blackened chicken on the face of the earth (it is hidden on the kids menu.)Village Inn, we know you are a chain restaurant, but you serve us breakfast at 9 p.m, and we adore you for it! And I would like to throw out a personal thank you to the local photographers who have helped me with my art over the years. To Tim Faust in particular, thank you for putting me in Altitude gallery, it has been an amazing experience! And most of all, for you Summit Up, you are the reason we get the Summit Daily, and the sudoku of course.Aw, shucks — thanks Mandy! It’s readers like you who make us shuffle into work every day!***We have here a Smarty Pants Alert! going out to Michael Siadak of Dillon, who recently graduated from Augustana College with a BA in in philosophy and geography. Congrats, Michael! With that fancy dual degree, perhaps you can tell us where the hell we are, both physicallly and metaphorically.Augustana College, in case you’re wondering, is in Rock Island, Ill.***More happy news: Tasha Rae Rosener of Breckenridge, who is a Summit High and Bates College grad now living and working in Denmark, Maine, is now engaged to Matthew Daniel Friedell, a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. The announcement comes from Tasha’s mom Donna Rosener and brother Jason Rosener as well as Matt’s folks, Dan and Pat Friedell. Tasha was diving coach for the SHS swim & dive team this past school year.Congrats! See the handsome couple on this page somewhere.***That’s it. Thanks for writing our column, folks! We out …
