Elite Athletes say thanks

On behalf of the Breckenridge Elite Athletes Foundation, we would like to thank some great folks and businesses for their time and effort with the April Fools’ Day Celebration in Breckenridge.

First and foremost, we want to congratulate the 2002 Breckenridge Town Fool, Russ Paul Rahn, for his humor and fund-raising talents. And thanks to the other five nominees who donated their time: Pete Lorenzen, Tim Gagen, Ernie Blake, Corry Mihm and Kim O’Brien. Thanks so much.

The following businesses helped out tremendously: the Breckenridge Resort Chamber (Ken, Shawna, Jen and Corry); the Breckenridge Restaurant Association; Summit Daily News; KSMT; City Market; and the Town of Breckenridge. Thank you all for helping and participating.

We also want to thank the Miltones for the great music, Biff America for his commentary and C.J. Mueller, Kate Brewer and Annie Evans for just being there. We raised just over $1,000 to help local athletes achieve their Olympic dreams.

What a wonderful vet

I lost my sweet little girl, Dutchess, last week. She was a beautiful little sheltie who loved life and living. She would’ve been 14 years old on May 2. An invisible tumor had been silently and invisibly consuming the left side of her face, and when it made itself horribly evident, I took Dutchess to her doctor, Gretchen Norton, DVM, at the Breckenridge Animal Clinic.

Dutchess must have been in extreme pain, yet she hardly whimpered … trusting us, I think, to do the right thing for her and make it better. We could only take the pain away from her by putting her to sleep. When it was over, Gretchen embraced me and we hugged for a long, long time – I know she truly felt my pain. Then, Monday, Dr. Norton called me, to make sure I was OK and to offer help if I needed it. God, what a wonderful, thoughtful lady.
