Summit Up 9-24-11: Gearing up for National Pasta Month

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that’s busy gearing up for National Pasta Month, which as any fool knows is in October. We’re stone-grinding our own semolina, canning tomatoes for our custom, home-made sauces, slaughtering pigs, bison, beeves and whatever else we can find to throw in our house-made sausage (which we prepare blindfolded because we can’t stand seeing sausage being made).

We’re also firing up our video camera to record any kids we see eating spaghetti. Other than watching dogs or cats eating peanut butter, there’s almost no other food-consumption scenario more hilarious than kids eating spaghetti. And, we hear from Fazoli’s restaurant, if you send in a good video of this, you can win a prize. Listen:

“October is National Pasta Month. And to celebrate, Fazoli’s has created a fun contest for kids. The Italian restaurant chain is seeking videos of kids 12 and under eating spaghetti. And the best techniques will be awarded a catered lunch for the child’s classmates, teammates, or other group of friends in October during National Pasta Month.

“Slurp it; twirl it; stuff it. No matter how you eat it, Fazoli’s would like to see it. It’s all part of Fazoli’s How Do You ‘Getti Your Spaghetti Contest. But if you want your kid’s technique to be considered, you need to hurry. The contest which launched at the beginning of this month will end September 30. To enter, parents should visit Fazoli’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/Fazolis, for instructions on how to enter their videos.”

In case you’re wondering, the nearest Fazoli’s is on Wadsworth in Arvada.

Speaking of Italian food, we popped into Jonny G’s in Frisco to try their pizza and are here to report that it’s pretty darn good! Jonny recently got a pizza oven and is turning out pretty authentic N.Y.-style pizzas at a very reasonable price (10 bucks for a 14-inch pie with pepperoni – not bad!). Nice thin crust, special spice and friendly service – what more could you ask for?

Get thee to Jonny G’s, located upstairs in the Frisco Mall.

Well folks, for once there’s not a whole lot going on this weekend other than the usual stuff like a Bronco’s game (11 a.m. vs. Tennessee) and aspen leaf changing stuff. If you’re jonesin’ for more Oktoberfest action, there’s one going on over in Glenwood. Closer to home, the Parade of Homes is also going on this weekend, which is a lot of fun to check out and which also benefits the Summit Foundation.

Enjoy it!

We out.
