Summit Up: Home of the Killarney Millsop Hogbath

Summit Up
Special to the Daily/Britt Basel

Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world’s only daily column that’s tired and shagged out following a prolonged St. Paddy’s Day squawk. Yep, we were out there doing the Irish line dancing, the corned-beef shooters, the car-bomb performance-art piece and the Jameson’s fire shots. Yep, we woke up this morning smelling like Killarney millsop hogbath, whatever that is, and we’re payin’ the price for a night of ethnically themed revelry.

We jest, of course. We’re writing this on Wednesday afternoon, and none of the aformentioned has happened … yet. But it might, you just never know. Those corned-beef shooters have a way of luring you right in!

But enough about holidaze you don’t care about now for another year. Here’s an Angel Alert! Angel Alert! from Denise Medley, who writes as such:

“A couple of men from Wichita, Kan. were having a beer while waiting for take out at Taddeo’s restaurant on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. That same night, a fundraiser for Doug Hardwick, a local ski instructor and fishing guide with cancer, was happening. They asked me about the fundraiser and, upon hearing the reason for the fundraiser, donated $100 to a man they did not know.”

How’s that for a very cool random act o’ kindness? We have now placed Wichita, Kan. on the list of places where cool folks live!

Random note: We’re hooked on this web-music site You can listen to new stuff for free once, then buy it either for online (cheap) or MP3 format (still pretty cheap). New music out from The White Stripes and the Drive-By Truckers had us going Wednesday. Good stuff! So don’t rip off musicians by downloading for free. Pay a little, support the arts, folks. We out.
