Summit’s Olof and Whitney Hedberg are set to compete in the 2022 Adventure Racing World Championships in Paraguay on Saturday. Sept. 17.

The Hedbergs have been competing in adventure racing for several years and competed in the 2017 world championships. In 2017, Olof competed with the Adventure Medical Kits team to finish third, and Whitney raced with NV Journey and placed 25th.

At the 2022 world championships, the Hedbergs will race alongside one another through the jungles that surround the country of Paraguay. The Hedbergs will start the eight-leg race in the early morning hours on Saturday.

Adventure racing is a multidisciplinary sport that forces teams to navigate an unmarked wilderness course. Races extend anywhere from two hours to up to two weeks in length.

The Paraguay World Championships will consist of several different disciplines including trekking, biking and kayaking.

The Hedbergs will begin the world championship event with a 122-kilometer trek and a 94-kilometer paddle. After the first two legs, the Hedbergs will embark on the next six legs, which consist of just biking and trekking.

The Hedbergs predict that they will finish in around 153 hours. They hope finish within the top 30, which would secure an automatic invite to next year’s World Championships.
