Support Snake River property tax

Tim Davidson

I to urge the voters in the Snake River Fire Protection District to vote YES for the 1.5 mill property tax increase on Tuesday, May 7. This increase is need by the district in order to maintain its current service levels and will allow the district to reduce the bond fund levy, which will result in a net increase of 1.291 mills to the property tax for the district.

In recent years, the district has been forced to do more with the same level of funding. The district is now contributing to the operation of the Summit County Dispatch center and has had to add some staff positions to maintain appropriate protection levels for the homeowners in the district. The district has also actively participated in the operation of the High County Training Center (HCTC). The HCTC has allowed all county firefighters to train on all aspects of firefighting in a realistic and safe environment. This training has greatly enhanced firefighter safety and effectiveness, but does come at a cost.

As a volunteer officer for the district, I am very proud to be associated with an organization that is so well run and customer focused. As a taxpayer in the district, I am very happy to report that the district staff and the board of directors are very fiscally responsible. All expenditures are carefully weighed to ensure that taxpayer funds are being put to the best possible use. I am also proud to be a member of a fire department.
