SWAG Web site launched by ski association

LAKEWOOD – The National Ski Areas Association has launched a Web site dedicated to its SWAG program which distributes retired ski resort uniforms to refugees in cold-weather spots around the globe.

Founded two years ago, SWAG has distributed more than 35,000 pieces of winter resort uniform clothing to refugees in nine countries. Twenty-one ski resorts from across the United States have contributed.

Already for the 2003-04 ski and snowboard season, SWAG has collected 26,000 winter garments, 10,000 of which will be sent to Eastern Europe and 1,000 that will go to Argentina.

SWAG will be working with the U.S. Department of Defense to distribute additional pieces.

The average U.S. ski resort retires its inventory of uniforms every few years. The SWAG Web site links to participating resorts and program partners, details past donations and provides information to resorts and other organizations that want to participate.
