Swan Mountain signal installed at tricky crossroads

Daily News staff report

SUMMIT COVE – Making a left-hand turn from Highway 6 onto Swan Mountain Road just got a little safer. The Colorado Department of Transportation installed a new traffic signal at the busy intersection on Tuesday. It will provide a protected green arrow for drivers making the left-hand turn. When the green arrow is not illuminated, a red arrow will pop up, prohibiting all turns.Something needed to be done at the intersection, which is known to be very dangerous, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Lloyd Smith said. During one week in February, 11 victims were treated at Summit Medical Center from three separate crashes, Smith said. The State Patrol and CDOT investigated to see what could be done to ease the problems. Options were lowering the speed limit and adding a new traffic signal.
