Monday deadline

for Ullr poster designs

BRECKENRIDGE – It’s last call for artists interested in submitting their posters for the Ullr Fest poster design contest.

Entries are due Monday.

Ullr Fest, a winter carnival slated for Jan. 9-15, 2004, pays homage to the Norse god of snow.

This winter season’s theme is “Ullr – The King of Snow.” Concept sketches must be no larger than 14-by-17 inches, and artists are asked to roughly tie their concept into the theme.

Artists can submit their work to the BRC office at 311 S. Ridge St. in Breckenridge, or mail it to the Breckenridge Resort Chamber Attn: Chris Searles P.O. Box 1909 Breckenridge, CO 80424.

Once judges select a winning piece, the artist must submit their final piece by Oct. 24. The winner will receive a prize package valued at more than $1,000.

Past posters have included a cartoon-like superhero Ullr, a stoic face shot and a community picture with Ullr in the middle.

Hunting safety class starts Sept. 29

The fall hunter education class necessary to get a hunting license will be held at Summit Middle School from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sept. 29-0ct. 3.

This is a Monday through Friday class. Friday will be spent at the gun range followed by the test. Certification cards will be issued. If possible, people should come to the range earlier than 6:30 p.m. for more daylight.

The class fee is $10, and registration will be taken on the first evening of class. All sessions must be attended. Passing the class is required for all who wish to obtain a Colorado hunting license.

There is no theoretical lower age for a license, but the ability to handle a gun and pass a written test often makes it hard to pass if under age 9 or 10.

Parents should sit through the sessions if a young child is taking the class. For information, call Dr. Greg Jungman at (970) 468-6139.
