T. Carp: Parking a mess at Silverthorne PO

T. Carp

I would like to personally thank the U.S. Postal Service on behalf of all the body shops in Summit County. The body shop business usually starts to slow down around this time of year, but I think this is going to give them a boost . I had a chance on Monday to personally experience the new Silverthorne Post Office parking lot and all I can think of to say is … damn.

While waiting for a vehicle to back out of a space in front of the building, two different vehicles were in the process of backing into both sides of my SUV. After averting that disaster, pulled into a space facing the street. Came out and sat in my vehicle for over 10 minutes, in reverse, waiting for it to clear so I could back out. After a couple more minutes, I gave up and drove across the grass, the sidewalk, and down off the curb onto the street. That was Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday were more of the same. This is late afternoon, around 2-3 p.m. I can’t imagine what lunch time must be like. Its configuration is perfect for backing into each other.

The old post office had its share of difficulties in its parking lot, but was larger and much easier to avoid backing vehicles. I feel sorry for the neighboring business that shares that entrance and exit.
