Taxes stink, but be glad you’re not from Britain

David SpeirsLanark, Scotland

As a regular visitor to Breckenridge, I say well done to your friendly, welcoming and helpful residents. I read about locals complaining about taxes and no doubt, this is the same the world over. Can I give your readers just an insight to Tax Britain? Our basic rate of employment tax is 23 percent. We pay an additional tax of 17.5 percent on all of our purchases and pay a community tax of nearly $3,700 per year. You have all noticed the world increase in fuel prices; we are presently paying more than $9 per gallon. I surprise myself that I can still budget for a yearly ski trip to Breckenridge. See you all in January 2008.
