Three Team Summit skimo athletes have qualified to compete at the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) World Championships in Morgins, Switzerland from March 2-8.
The athletes include Jay McDonald, Finn Brown and Ashley Adkins, who all attend Summit High School.
It was the three athletes’ strong results at the U.S. National Championships in Utah and the Fireball Rando U.S. National Cup race in New Mexico that secured an invitation.
All of the student athletes will now prepare to travel to Switzerland to face off against some of the best ski mountaineering athletes in the world. The weeklong world championships will feature a mixed-relay, sprint, vertical, individual and a team race.
“Team Summit’s ski mountaineering team is relatively new, and we’re thrilled to be sending three athletes to the World Championships so early in our tenure,” said Team Summit coach Tim Faia. “The athletes have worked hard and shown dedication to improve upon both technical skills and existing fitness to reach the elite level of U.S. skimo racers.”
McDonald, Brown and Adkins will meet up with the U.S. National Team in Morgins where they will represent the United States in the opening ceremony before racing begins.
