Teen faces careless driving charges in crash with wrestlers

FORT COLLINS – The driver of a vehicle that struck two Berthoud High School wrestlers, costing each wrestler both of his legs, will be cited with a misdemeanor.Larimer County prosecutors have asked the Colorado State Patrol to issue a summons citing Michelle Berra, 17, with two counts of careless driving causing injury.Tyler Carron and Nikko Landeros were struck late Jan. 15 on Larimer County Road 17. They were standing outside their vehicle getting ready to fix a flat tire when they were struck and pinned between the two vehicles.If convicted, Berra could face anything from probation to a year in jail, plus fines of up to $1,000.Berra also attends Berthoud High School.
