Thank you Egon Gerson Red Cross Service Center
They are there when you need them. The American Red Cross, the Egon Gerson Branch, located in Dillon is a silent giant. There, when emergencies call for help and invaluable assistance. The Gerson Center services a three county area. In the last fiscal year it has responded to 13 single and multi-family disasters, assisting 98 adults and children filling immediate needs and lodging. In addition, the service center opened three shelters, which served 396 individuals and provided food, drinks and other support services with the help of 260 emergency workers.Three hundred and sixty six Health and Safety classes provided training to over 2,000 individuals. The Gerson Center provides a 24/7 emergency communication service for families to communicate with military service members around the world so they may be in touch with families in their hour of need. Commencing in 2004, the Egon Gerson Center along with other Colorado Chapters launched a preparedness program focused on how to prepare for and prevent disasters. In the last fiscal year, more than 1,000 area residents were reached with disaster preparedness information. In addition, living in the tinder box conditions that we do, the Gerson Center implemented a four basin emergency shelter program and trained over 60 volunteers in the event of a Summit County emergency. The services of the Egon Gerson Service Center are made possible by a staff of just two and assisted by volunteers. Our hat is off to the dedication of Lindsay Ishman, the local director and Rita Stevenson on loan from the AmeriCorps VISTA.At the holiday time, a contribution to the American Red Cross, Egon Gerson Branch, P.O. Box 120, Dillon, Colorado, 80435, would be greatly appreciated and used in Summit County for their many worthy projects.John & Pat TaylorSilverthorne
